It is a new day in America. Could it be in Alberta as well? In Alberta, Danielle Smith’s government, to her credit, is amending the Alberta Bill of Rights. That’s a good thing.
But it needs to be right. We have a moment in which to push things in the correct direction. Our job is to be precise, careful and diligent about making sure that the changes that we get are real, and that they work, and that they mean what we want them to mean.
The proposed amendments have been introduced in the Alberta legislature as Bill 24. In my opinion, the Bill contains some flaws and is missing some opportunities. Below I have drafted what I believe the Bill should say.
